Irish finance minister rules out elections before Christmas
DUBLIN, Oct (HKSE: 3366-OL.HK - news) 13 (Reuters) - Irish finance minister Michael Noonan on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of parliamentary elections being called before the end of the year.
Prime Minister Enda Kenny on Sunday said he did not intend to call a parliamentary election in Ireland (Other OTC: IRLD - news) before early next year, seeking to halt widespread speculation that he would call a snap vote next month.
"The Taoiseach (Prime Minister) closed the window there on Sunday. You can be absolutely certain there's no election between now and Christmas," Noonan told a news conference. (Reporting by Padraic Halpin; Editing by Hugh Lawson)
