Iskra Lawrence Got Real About Her Stomach Rolls

Even though plus-size model Iskra Lawrence has impressive abs, the blond beauty still gets stomach rolls when she sits down — just like (almost) anyone else. But the empowered 25-year-old is not about to use Photoshop or apps to camouflage her imperfections on Instagram. Instead, she’s so proud of her body that she showed it off au naturel yesterday.

In a bikini closeup posted to Instagram, her natural curves are on full display. “I am so grateful to be at peace with my body and confident enough to post a pic that isn’t trying to be ‘perfect,‘” Lawrence captioned the selfie, which she snapped on beach in the United Kingdom. “I get rolls when I sit down (most of us do) and that’s cool…I hope you all get to a place where you don’t need to strive for perfection bc it’s honesty doesn’t exist. But YOU exist and you are one of a kind and that makes you perfectly you.”

Lawrence’s Insta currently has 145,000 likes from fans who were inspired by her realness. “…Perfection is in the eye of the beholder…I, like many thousands of others find you perfect!” wrote @marcoselk. “Thank u for been a voice in a difficult world that just accepts skinny models!!!” added @annieroquebert. Of course, some commenters started in with the name-calling (it is social media, after all), but they were quickly taken down by Lawrence’s supportive fans, Beyhive-style.

The model often takes to Instagram to make bold statements about body acceptance to her 2.2 million followers. A few months ago she posted side-by-side pics of her actual body next to a shot of her faking a thigh gap. She wanted to prove that the images we see in the media are often doctored or just illusions. “No thigh gap or thigh gap who cares…I’ll be the first to tell you pics are all about good lighting and angles. Always remember social medias not real life…” she wrote.

Around the same time, she took part in Look magazine’s #MyBodyMyLook campaign by sharing a pic of her bikini body with a sign that read, “I learnt to <3 my BIG thighs.” It got more than 100,000 likes.

Lawrence is definitely wise beyond her years, and she is one of our boldest voices against body shaming. In one episode of a series of videos called “Ask Iskra,” she told Seventeen she was shamed by her own family about her looks growing up, from her weight to her acne-prone skin. “I would go swimming – to swimming lessons – with this thick foundation on because I was so insecure about my skin,” she said. “I remember family members telling me you can’t wear those type of boots that cut off on your calf because your legs look too big and it makes your legs look fat.”

Now that she’s put the shaming behind her and totally owns her gorgeous, perfectly flawed body, she wants other girls to follow suit — and to open up to the people who make them feel bad about who they are. ‘You should stand up for yourself,” she says of the naysayers. “Tell them, ‘I appreciate your opinion but that really hurt me’.”
