As you will most definitely know, it’s been absolutely all hands on deck since the cast of Love Island 2021 was announced yesterday. Between stalking their social medias and over-analysing their bios, we, the fans, have barely come up for air. So, it makes sense that someone has already uncovered a niche link between new Islander Sharon Gaffka and villa icon Molly-Mae Hague. Which, given Molly-Mae’s super successful career since leaving the show in 2019, is no bad thing at all.

25-year-old Sharon, who was the first contestant to be announced for the 2021 season, previously worked as a civil servant in various government departments, and before that she was a pageant queen - she was even crowned Miss International UK back in 2018. This, it turns out, is where her link to former Islander Molly-Mae comes in.

"I used to do pageants. Molly-Mae and I had the same pageant director,” Sharon explained when she was asked if she knew any previous Islanders.

Speaking about why she signed up to do the show, Oxford-born Sharon said that her friends had long had a “running joke” that she should apply thanks to her being “the most outrageous one out of the group.”

“But also because of COVID and the lockdown,” she continued. “I’m the only single one in my friendship group. They’re either married or planning on getting married. I don’t want to be the only one in the group chat that is single anymore!"
