Andrew Davies is back to write the screenplay, and he will be joined by Justin Young.

Here's the official synopsis: 'The drama will continue to follow the high-spirited and independent heroine, Charlotte Heywood (Williams) as she returns to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon. Charlotte's journey is one thread of an intricate tapestry of compelling stories full of intrigue, excitement, and romance. Sanditon season 2: The cast

Rose Williams will be returning as heroine Charlotte Heywood, and she will be joined by original cast members Kris Marshall (Tom Parker), Anne Reid (Lady Denham), Turlough Convery (Arthur Parker), Jack Fox (Sir Edward Denham), Kate Ashfield (Mary Parker), Crystal Clarke (Miss Lambe) and Lily Sacofsky (Clara Brereton).

New cast members include Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Alexander Colbourne, and Tom Weston-Jones as Colonel Francis Lennox - two very different men vying for Charlotte's affection.

Outlander's Alison Heywood will play Charlotte's younger sister Rosie, Normal People's Frank Blake is Captain Declan Fraser, a courageous character (if a little rough around the edges), and Alexander Vlahos takes on the striking and flamboyant Charles Lockhart, a Byronic artist who arrives to paint portraits of Sanditon's fashionable and wealthy residents.

It was recently confirmed that Theo James won't be returning as Charlotte's love interest - having rejected her in the devastating finale.

'Although I relished playing Sidney, for me, I’ve always maintained that his journey concluded as I wanted it to,' James said in a statement. 'The broken fairy-tale like ending between Charlotte and Sidney is different, unique and so interesting to me and I wish the cast and crew every success with future series.'

Sanditon was brought back due to popular demand after ITV originally announced that it would not be returning for another season. It has since been commissioned for a third series.

Sanditon season 2 will be released on BritBox and ITV.
