Finding Alice has been renewed for a second series, ITV has confirmed.

Starring Joanna Lumley and It's a Sin's Keeley Hawes, the comedy-drama follows Alice after the death of Harry – her partner of 20 years – who falls down the stairs of their fancy new home that he'd designed.

Rhashan Stone, Isabella Pappas, Gemma Jones, Dominique Moore, Jason Merrells and former Coronation Street actor Nigel Havers round out the cast.

The broadcaster also announced that filming on the next instalment will begin in February 2022, so fans have got a while to wait yet before they'll get to see new episodes. The story is set to pick things up one year on, and focus on Alice having to face the repercussions of deciding to have her dead husband's baby.

"I'm so pleased to be reuniting with the brilliant team behind Finding Alice for a second series," Hawes said in a statement. "We've been honoured to hear from so many viewers who have related to Alice's experience of grief, and look forward to sharing the next stage of her journey."

"I am delighted to be able to continue telling Alice's very original story with Roger [Goldby] and Simon [Nye] writing and Keeley Hawes back to explore the increasingly complicated life of Alice," added executive producer Nicola Shindler.

"Finding Alice is a terrific story, brought to life through a fantastic cast and crew," Sarah Doole, CEO of Red Production Company, said.

"It's been a brilliant antidote to lockdown as these fantastic viewing figures show, and the team at Red Production Company can't wait to bring more of Alice's life to ITV viewers."

Finding Alice is available to stream on ITV Hub now.
