Packing for a weekend trip is never as easy as it seems — either you bring too many things or forget the essentials.

In this episode of In The Know’s The Guide, men’s style expert Jovel Roystan chats with stylist Jerome LaMaar about packing lists. LaMaar got their start working under Kimora Lee Simmons at Baby Phat and has since worked with major brands like Adidas, Calvin Klein and Uniqlo. They served as creative director and designer of Beyoncé’s 2020 Ivy Park x Adidas collection and is currently the youngest trustee on the board of The Bronx Museum of Art.

Roystan and the legendary fashion visionary discuss what guys should pack for a weekend getaway.

“There’s no need to pack your entire closet,” Roystan says. “What you want to do is try to fit everything into one nice, stylish duffle.”

LaMaar recommends having, “enough pieces that you can actually rotate within that weekend.”

Coming up with a color scheme will make it easier to mix and match pieces. But you don’t have to give up comfort while you’re flexing on the beach.

“Think about flowy, more comfortable pieces that you won’t get overheated in,” Roystan says.

Breezy button-downs, match sets, light linens and Bermuda shorts should be some of go-tos. LaMaar advises men to step outside of just plain white tees and explore more colorful woven shirts.

Swim trunks should be something that is colorful and interesting that you can pair with like a good woven shirt, a great cap and great jewelry,” LaMaar says.

They suggests bringing a great fragrance with you because, “if you don’t smell good, your whole vibe is gonna be off.”

But there was one piece LaMaar couldn’t go on a trip without, thanks to their dad.

“My dad is a military man,” LaMaar explains. “What I love about him is he said, when you’re traveling, you better pack a blazer cause you never know what business you have to attend to.”
