Yahoo Finance Jake Paul Wants to Fight Canelo Alvarez
Jake Paul may only be three fights into his professional boxing career, but that hasn't stopped him from eyeing a fight between him and the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the world, Canelo Alvarez.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Paul said that with his approach to professional fighting "anything's possible", and although a fight with Alvarez is years away, he wouldn't be afraid to accept a fight of that magnitude.
When asked by TMZ where he seems himself five years from now, Paul said: "I just want to continue to be the most disruptive boxer in the history of the sport, and I think it's taking it on a fight by fight basis and continuing to build these fights and make them even bigger, and take on more serious opponents.
"Look, if you asked me if I was going to be where I'm at three years ago, I wouldn't believe you, so I don't even want to think about or cap myself with possibilities. I'm open minded and I think anything's possible.
"I think I could be fighting against Canelo Alvarez for the WBC or the WBO championship belt.
"So really the sky's the limit and it's just about how seriously I'm going to take it, and I do take it seriously – more seriously than 99.9% of these 'professional' boxers out there."
He added: "Why not [fight Alvarez], baby? A lot of people are afraid, right? They're afraid to try, they're afraid to get up out of their seats, they're afraid to do something different, but that's them, that's not me.
"I know that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to and that's why there's a difference between successful and unsuccessful people in this world."
Before Paul gets to lay a glove on Alvarez, he has to come through his August fight with former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley.
And from the sounds of it, Paul knows he's in for a tough fight having acknowledged that, unlike some of his previous opponents, UFC fighters know how to box.
Speaking specifically about UFC star Anderson Silva's victory over boxing champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Paul said he wasn't surprised by the result because UFC fighters are good with their hands.
"MMA strikers are also great boxers, and I think a lot of people forget that," Paul said. "That is the first skill that MMA fighters learn if they're going to learn how to fight."
