James Corden has said the US has been "hijacked by a lunatic and his crazy army" for the duration of Donald Trump’s tenure as president in the wake of the president’s supporters storming the US Capitol.
Rioters forced entry to the building on Wednesday during the final electoral count to protest against the results of the election in violent scenes that saw four people die.
Hours after the attack, the US Congress certified Joe Biden's win, clearing the way for him to be inaugurated as president on 20 January.

"What a crazy, sad day. A day that will go down as dark one in the long history of America. We've all sat today glued to the pictures of Trump supporters in the Capitol, fighting with police," he said.
"Today people across the world will have looked at these pictures from Washington and they will wonder what on earth has happened to this great country but I truly believe – and make no mistake – that they know that the America they admire still exists.
"They know that the America that so many aspire to will be back. It's just been hijacked by a lunatic and his crazy army," Corden said before noting that it would soon come to an end.
“Because in two weeks on those same steps, where that mob fought and pushed past police, Joe Biden will be sworn in as president of the United States.”
