Eurovision hopeful James Newman has unveiled the song that will represent the UK at this year’s contest, and fans have given it the thumbs up.

The singer-songwriter – who is the older brother of pop star John Newman – is getting his crack at Eurovision 2021 after missing out when last year’s event was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He has now revealed that the song he will be taking is called Embers.

Calling it a "banger", Newman told Radio 1 Newsbeat: “Embers is about those sparks that don't die out. When we were writing this, it felt like I wanted to show everyone that we were coming back together.

"It's about having that connection and something reigniting.

"It's about us emerging from this rubbish time we've been having.”

The singer, 35, added that the dance track “fits with the idea that Eurovision is coming back”.

Embers has met with a positive response so far, with people on social media saying it gives them high hopes for this year's competition.

“Best song we've had for years,” one person tweeted. “If this doesn't get us Top 10 there's no justice.”

“You deserve the best result for the UK in years,” said another.

Another person posted: “I think this is great. It represents what charts in the UK. It’s uplifting, it’s a banger and I’m sure you have brilliant staging in the works that will uplift this more!"
