Yahoo Finance Jed Mercurio says Vicky McClure’s Trigger Point character is "different from Kate Fleming"
Line of Duty fans can't wait to see Vicky McClure in Jed Mercurio's upcoming series Trigger Point, in which she plays a skilled bomb disposal operative.
Jed has shared details about Vicky's character to reveal that - while she's working for the police - she's "very different" from DI Kate Fleming in his hit BBC police procedural.
"We know how great Vicky is in all the roles she does. And this character of Lana Washington is very different from Kate Fleming," Jed told RadioTimes.com.
"But fundamentally, it's a bomb disposal thriller, and there are high levels of jeopardy. And behind it, there’s a kind of mystery conspiracy thriller. So those are all the elements… We just try to make the best piece of work we can."
Series 6 of Line of Duty concluded earlier this year, and Jed said it was "brilliant working with with Vicky again, so soon", and that filming is currently "going really, really well".
"Great cast, really great crew, and it’s coming together extremely well. And Dan Brierley’s scripts are just brilliant," he added.
The ITV series follows Vicky and Adrian Lester as bomb disposal operatives known as 'Expos'. Adrian stars as Joel Nutkins, who is working alongside Vicky's Lana Washington as part of the Metropolitan Police Bomb Disposal Squad. Both are ex-military and extremely close, having served together in Afghanistan.
When a terrorist campaign threatens the capital over the summer, the Expos are at the forefront of urgent efforts to find out who is behind the bombings before fatalities escalate.
Vicky recently said of the role: "So grateful to be working with Jed again. I’m really looking forward to creating a strong, bright and troubled character in Lana Washington. Daniel Brierley has produced a brilliant and nail-biting script. I can’t wait to get started later this year."
Adrian added: "I’m really looking forward to partnering with Vicky on this great new series. Jed Mercurio’s material is always great. This series is ambitious and challenging which is why it’s exciting to be a part of the team."
Trigger Point will air on ITV.
