Jennifer Garner has revealed she asked her dad for permission to get her ears pierced aged 48.

The actor says her father's strict and conservative nature meant she and her two sisters were never allowed to wear make-up or have piercings.

But during lockdown the mum-of-three wanted to get her ears pierced to mix up her look on video calls, and rang her father first to get his thoughts.

Speaking on the Happy Mum podcast with Giovanna Fletcher, the Yes Day star said: “I come from a very conservative – my dad is very strict and very conservative – Garner girls did not have their ears pierced."

She went on to explain that growing up she didn’t wear make-up or have her nails painted, "we were very good girls,” she added.

“I just got mine pierced during the pandemic for the first time," Garner continued.

"It was very exciting because I couldn’t look at myself over Zoom without something new and that's why I cut a fringe as well.

“I couldn’t even stand to look at myself anymore.

“I’m 48 – and I called my parents and said: ‘Dad, I’m gonna pierce my ears. ‘And he said: ‘Okay Jennifer.’”

While the Hollywood star is regularly pictured on the red carpet wearing earrings, her revelation about getting her ears pierced in lockdown suggests Garner has been wearing clip-ons until now.

The actor went on to open up about how her body changed after pregnancy, and how it didn't simply return to its previous shape after giving birth.

“There are some incredible women whose bodies just, no matter how many babies they have they bounce right back to that slim-hipped, no stomach – I mean it’s incredible, I have so many girlfriends who have that physique and I’m so happy for them.

"I am not one of them, that is not my gig."

She went on to say that though she can work really hard on her fitness, she believes she will still look like a woman who has had three babies.

The Alias star added that she's also had to deal with incidents of people still questioning whether she was pregnant, and explained that an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show was an attempt to "address" the subject.

"I just felt like we might as well? I mean every week, is she? Is she pregnant? Is she?," she explained.

Garner also recounted an embarrassing moment when a "dear friend", who was visiting her in hospital after she'd given birth to her first child asked: "Is there another one in there?"

Although the incident didn't affect the actor too much, she said: "Luckily I have a sense of humour and I laughed but I remembered it, you know? I remembered it."
