Yahoo Finance Jeremy Menesses: Teen stabbed to death on Oxford Street in front of horrified shoppers named
A teenager stabbed to death in London’s West End has been named by the Metropolitan Police as Jeremy Menesses, 17, who lived in south London.
Police were called at 5.38pm on Saturday to reports of an assault on Market Place at the junction with Oxford Street, and found him with a stab injury, and he died in hospital later.
Three men who went to a south London hospital with superficial stab wounds were arrested on suspicion of murder.
One witness, Benjamin Teacher said he saw a man armed with a machete chasing another man.
"Someone was running down the middle of Oxford Street in broad daylight on a Saturday with a machete, chasing someone", he said. And now police everywhere because this is London!"
Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin, who is leading the inquiry, said: “This attack took place following a fight between a number of males in broad daylight and was witnessed by a large number of horrified onlookers.
“We have spoken to a number of people already but need anyone who has information, video or images to speak to us and tell us what they know. Your assistance could prove vital as we investigate this terrible incident.”
Superintendent Rob Shepherd, from the Central West BCU, said there will be an increased police presence around Oxford Street following the incident.
"Residents and visitors will see an increased police presence in the area following this shocking incident", he said. We are doing everything we can to support our Specialist Crime colleagues as they continue their investigation and urge anyone with information to approach officers on the street if they have information that they would like to share with us, or call 101.”
