Yahoo Finance Jets owner says he won't fire Adam Gase during the season or in the offseason
New York Jets fans should get comfortable with what they have, because head coach Adam Gase isn’t going anywhere for a while. Gase received a vote of confidence from Jets owner Christopher Johnson, who told reporters Wednesday that Gase would not be fired during the season or in the offseason.

The 41-year-old Gase hasn’t inspired much confidence during his first nine games as the team’s head coach. The Jets are 2-7 and rank dead last in offensive yards per game. Gase was hired due to his experience as an offensive assistant and coordinator.
In Gase’s defense, his starting quarterback missed significant time due to mono. With Sam Darnold sidelined, the Jets initially turned to Trevor Siemian in Week 2. Siemian lasted six pass attempts before breaking his ankle. That pushed Luke Falk into the starting role for two-and-a-half games.
Predictably, the Jets struggled in those games. Things haven’t improved much since Darnold returned, though. In his six games, Darnold has thrown seven touchdowns against nine interceptions. His yards per attempt has fallen compared to his rookie season.
That’s not a large enough sample to cast definitive judgements on Gase’s coaching, though it’s troubling that the team has looked lifeless on offense most weeks.
While Jets fans may be upset about Johnson’s declaration, things could change. Votes of confidence only happen if a coach and team are underperforming, and owners have been known to go back on their word if that spiral continues.
There’s no guarantee things will turn around considering the way the season has gone. Gase is safe for now, but another misstep could be his last depending on how much Johnson believes in the vote of confidence he just issued.
