Warriors honor Oakland native, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris with Steph Curry signed jersey

The Golden State Warriors honored one of their most famous fans after her historic moment on Saturday.

Kamala Harris became the first woman and first Asian American to be elected to the vice presidency when the Associated Press projected she and former Vice President Joe Biden won the election. Harris, who became a senator for California in 2017, grew up in Oakland and is a well-known Warriors fan.

The organization honored the moment with a message on its new “Oakland Forever” jersey from star Stephen Curry.

Curry wrote, “To Kamala. Bay Area -> D.C. Congrats!!” with his signature and No. 30.

Curry family endorsed Biden-Harris ticket at DNC

The three-time NBA champion and his wife, author and TV chef Ayesha Curry, publicly endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket during the Democratic National Convention in August. The couple and their three kids were part of a video explaining the announcement.

Curry joined fellow NBA star LeBron James in support of Biden. James celebrated Biden becoming President-elect in a very different way. Athletes worked hard off the court and field in the months leading up to the election to get out the vote, and most supported Biden and Harris.

Harris, 56, was born in Oakland to Indian and Jamaican immigrants and grew up in Berkeley.

She has commonly tweeted about the Warriors and verified before accepting the vice presidential nomination that she is indeed a “Warriors over everything” fan.

Harris’ “meet-cute” with her husband, Doug Emhoff, also includes the NBA and a little bit of a Warriors nod. Via the Los Angeles Times:

“A few nights later, Emhoff texted Harris from an L.A. Lakers game. (Harris replied “Go Lakers!” even though she’s a Golden State Warriors fan.)”

Emhoff will become the first second gentleman upon inauguration in January. He will also become the first Jewish spouse of a president or vice president.
