Yahoo Finance Karaoke outlet ordered to shut for 20 days after 51 patrons found drinking at midnight on Xmas
SINGAPORE — A karaoke outlet in the Orchard Road area has been ordered to close for 20 days after it was found to have allowed patrons to consume alcohol at 10.30pm.
In a media release on Wednesday (30 December), the Ministry for Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) said that MZS Family Karaoke – located at Ming Arcade along Cuscaden Road – had breached safe management measures in allowing 51 patrons to consume alcoholic drinks at around 12.05am on Christmas Day.
For allowing a large gathering and serving alcohol past 10.30pm on the premises, the outlet was ordered to close for 20 days from 25 December until 13 January.
The Singapore Police Force is also investigating the 51 individuals for suspected non-compliance with safe distancing measures.
Under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020, social gatherings in groups of more than five outside an individual’s residence are prohibited in Phase Two.
Food and beverages (F&B) outlets are also not allowed to accept bookings from groups larger than five, even if such groups were split across multiple tables. Intermingling between groups is also prohibited. In addition, alcohol must not be served or consumed at F&B premises past 10.30pm.
7 F&B outlets fined for safe management breaches
Seven more F&B outlets were each fined each for breaches of safe management measures from 18 to 26 December. They are: Six Grey Bar (Jiak Chuan Road), Indian Xpress Bar & Restaurant, (Campbell Lane), ABC Nasi Kandar (Desker Road), CHICHI (Amoy Street), Lawry’s The Prime Rib Singapore (Orchard Road), Coffeesmith (Gateway, 277 Orchard Road), Manpei (Magazine Road).
The breaches included admitting and seating groups of more than five together, allowing groups to intermingle, seating groups of patrons less than one metre apart and providing games to patrons despite not being an amusement centre.
Over the coming New Year weekend, agencies will continue to step up enforcement checks on F&B outlets. Under Phase Three, which started on Monday, F&B outlets are reminded not to accept bookings of groups that are larger than eight, even if the diners are seated at separate tables.
Similar to Phase Two, intermingling between groups, and the serving and consumption of alcohol after 10.30pm are prohibited. For more information on safe management measures to follow during Phase Three, visit here.
