Like many parents across the country, Kate Garraway was celebrating the end of the week so that she can have a break from the "torture" of homeschooling on Friday.

The Good Morning Britain star was co-hosting the ITV show with Ben Shephard as they spoke about the struggles of trying to teach their children for the second time round - and how mums, dads and guardians everywhere will be relieved that the weekend is nigh.

"It's Friday, a collective, I think, sigh of relief to anybody locked into homeschooling," Kate told viewers. "Which I think the first time round, I was somewhat distracted at the time, the first time round a lot of people found it quite nice... The sun was shining, they had a great time with the children, and then very quickly realised how brilliant teachers are...

"And this time round, it's a real struggle, isn't it?"

Ben - who has two teenagers, Jack, 15, and Sam, 13, with his wife Anne - agreed with Kate, and suggested that children were "itching" to get back to school to be with their friends.

"I think it's really hard because of the weather particularly, I think it's really hard because it's the second time round, the kids are itching to get back to school...," he explained.

"They want to see other kids, don't they?" Kate added.

The show was also providing a panel of experts to offer advice for those struggling with homeschooling, and opened a helpline for parents to call in to share their issues.

Meanwhile, Kate has two children, Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, with husband Derek Draper, who remains in hospital battling Covid-19. Derek was initially hospitalised with the virus in March last year, and the 53-year-old is one of an estimated five people in the world to have been affected so badly by coronavirus and still be alive.

Kate recently revealed that Derek is now breathing on his own, and hopes it signifies the beginning of his recovery.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays on ITV.
