Kate Middleton is hosting a special Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey

The Duchess of Cambridge has announced that she is hosting a carol service with The Royal Foundation at Westminster Abbey. Taking place on Wednesday, 8 December, the event will be broadcast on ITV.

Taking to the official @dukeandduchessofcambridge Instagram page to announce the event, an image of the invitation was uploaded with a caption that confirmed that the service is "to recognise and celebrate the incredible work of individuals and organisations across the nation who have stepped up to support their communities through the pandemic".

The caption went on to say that “the service will look back on the last eighteen months, to think not only of the unprecedented challenges that we have all faced as we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, but also to remember the positives: people and organisations pulling together in their communities, the small acts of kindness across different demographics and generations, and the unsung heroes who stepped up to help others.”

Kensington Palace confirmed that the duchess will be inviting a range of "inspirational individuals" who have gone above and beyond to care and protect those in need across the UK.

A very smart invitation, it reads: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, supported by The Royal Foundation and with grateful thanks to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey, requests the pleasure of the company of [blank] at a Carol Service at Westminster Abbey, London, SW1P 3PA on Wednesday 8th December at 5pm."

The design includes the Duchess’ gold monogrammed C for Catherine at the top which comes complete with a fitting crown.
