Yahoo Finance Kate Winslet Wins Lead Actress in a Limited Series at 2021 Emmys: 'Mom, They're Standing Up'
From Easttown to Tinseltown!
Kate Winslet took home the award for outstanding actress in a limited series or a movie at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards for her role in Mare of Easttown. She beat out fellow nominees Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You), Cynthia Erivo (Genius: Aretha), Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit).
This marks Winslet's fourth Emmy nomination and second win.
"Mom, mom they're standing up!" the 45-year-old said of receiving a standing ovation while accepting the award. "Oh my God, thank you so much!"

After Winslet composed herself, she went on to shout out her fellow nominees.

"In this decade that has to be about women having each other's backs," she continued. "I support you. I salute you. I'm proud of all of you. Mare of Easttown it seemed to — I don't know — it was this cultural moment and it brought people together and gave them something to talk about other than a global pandemic and I want to thank everyone for watching out show."
Winslet also called out the show's creator, Brad Inglesby. "This is you, this is all you," the mom of three said to him. "You created a middle-aged, imperfect flawed mother and you made us all feel validated."

Winslet wrapped by sending love to her family. "My children — Mia, Joe and Bear — the greatest people in the world. And my husband Ned, who I get to hold hands with for the rest of my life," she said. "Yes, I am the winner! Thank you so much."
Speaking backstage to reporters, the actress said it was special to be able to have her husband, Ned Rocknroll, with her on her special night as the Emmys were already part of their love story.
"When I was here ten years ago with Mildred Pierce we had actually just met," she said. "I knew that I was going to spend my life with this man."
"We're getting to the Emmys and I was just so in a whirlwind of having just met him that I couldn't even concentrate and I vividly remember making an absolutely appalling speech because I was not on planet earth because I had fallen head over heels in love with this person who I just met. So to have him here, it's really quite special."

HBO's Mare of Easttown follows police detective Mare (Winslet) as she investigates the disappearance of a teenage mother in her Philadelphia suburb.
After her win, the British actress said playing Mare meant a "huge amount because it makes me feel genuinely, that our industry is changing."
"The shifts are happening," she told reporters in the Emmys press room. "We're finger pointing a lot less at women in terms of how they look, their shape. We've stopped scrutinizing them and in turn, what happens then is that the younger generations of women who are not in our industry start to feel okay with themselves too."
"That's more important than anything else. It's up to us to absolutely real and representing ourselves with integrity and authenticity and celebrating each other and not judging one another. If we're not doing that in our industry then nobody else has got a hope in hell."

While originally a limited series, Winslet told reporters a second season may be on the cards.
"Conversations are happening but I think until scripts are in place that we can really respond to and know what a full story, what a season 2, might be. And also where Mare goes," she said after her win. "We wouldn't be able to match what we already did, and nor should we try. But we should do our best to provide something that is as captivating and entertaining. We'll see!"
The 73rd Emmy Awards, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, are airing live from 8-11 p.m. ET on CBS.
