Visit England has revealed the winners of its annual Awards for Excellence and one family-run bed and breakfast has performed particularly well.

Alkham Court Farmhouse in the village of South Alkham, near Dover in Kent, has been named the B&B of the year at this year's prize-giving, which celebrated the best of England's tourism industry at a ceremony in Bath on Monday.

As well as rating bed and breakfasts, the tourism agency announced winners across categories including boutique guest accommodation of the year, hotel of the year, dog-friendly business of the year, best holiday park, best pub, and best small and large visitor attractions. After winning the top prize at Tourism South East’s ‘Beautiful South Awards’ last year, Alkham Court picked up Visit England's gold medal beating hundreds of other entries.

'The standard of the hundreds of applications we received this year was extremely high and that’s why Alkham Court’s accolade is a testament to their excellent work,' Sally Balcombe, CEO of VisitBritain and VisitEngland said. 'These awards shine a spotlight on our fantastic tourism industry, with the winners showcasing the quality, innovation and excellence on offer throughout England and I warmly congratulate them on their impressive contribution to the industry.'

Located on a traditional Kentish farm, the property has been in the Burrows family for over 50 years and has been run as a B&B for the last 15. Rated for its five-star service, it offers four double rooms from £140 per night, as well as beautiful gardens, stunning views of the countryside and a hot tub with a sauna.

Its award-winning breakfast menu is made up of locally produced, seasonal food, including the B&B's own free-range eggs, homegrown fruit and veg and homemade preserves.

The Kent Downs, Dover Castle and the famous White Cliffs are a short drive away and for those who are after peace and quiet, the B&B offers a self-catered glamping experience in a restored 19th Century shepherd’s hut.

Visit England also named two runners-up in the B&B category. The 25 Boutique B&B, Devon, received silver, with South Lodge Boutique B&B in Buckinghamshire taking bronze. See some of this year's winners across the categories below:
