Though the nation took notice of Amanda Gorman when she delivered her revered poem “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s inauguration, the Los Angeles native has long been an inspiration to her peers. At the age of 18, the Harvard University cum laude graduate, whose work largely touches on race, marginalization and feminism, became the United States’ first Youth Poet Laureate. In addition to performing for Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Al Gore and Malala Yousafzai, Gorman has written for The New York Times and has three forthcoming books with Penguin Random House. And that’s not all. The celebrated poet has won multiple awards, including the Poets & Writers Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award, and is the youngest board member of 826 National, the largest youth writing network in the United States.
