What began as a viral dance on the latest social media app started a new culture of creatorship. As the original creator of the Renegade dance on TikTok, Jalaiah Harmon is paving the way for young creators everywhere. She quickly danced to a clip of K Camp’s “Lottery (Renegade)” before dance practice and uploaded it to Instagram. Unfortunately, Harmon didn’t initially receive credit for creating the dance. As a result, discussions have surfaced on ownership and sharing on social media overall. TikTokers have since started adding “DC”, or “Dance Credit,” alongside other dancers that make future dances go viral. Harmon was a featured dancer for the Scooby-Doo movie in May 2020. In addition, she got to perform the Renegade live at the NBA All-Star game and is one of the youngest members on Forbes’ 30 under 30 list.
