President, Youth Coalition for Black Lives Matter of Greater New York
Age: 20
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York

In the wake of George Floyd’s murder in May 2020, Nupol Kiazolu became the face of the Black Lives Matter movement in New York, where thousands protested against police brutality and systemic racism. For Kiazolu, activism is nothing new. Her first protest took place in 2012, when she wore a black hoodie to school with the words “Do I look suspicious?” in the aftermath of Trayvon Martin’s shooting. Since then, the 20-year-old, who once lived in a homeless shelter, has drawn from personal experience to drive genuine conversations about race. She has also launched a Vote 2000 campaign to encourage other young people of color to register to vote.
