When a neighborhood beauty shop was seeking new ownership amid economic troubles caused by the pandemic, Paris McKenzie’s mother, the longtime owner of a nearby salon in Flatbush, thought that her daughter would make the perfect owner. With the help of her older brother, McKenzie made an LLC and purchased the shop herself. After renovating and rebranding, Paris Beauty Supplyz opened in September. Combining skills she picked up while working at her mother’s salon and intrinsic digital savvy, McKenzie has turned the beauty supply store into a booming business and a viral sensation recognized by the likes of Bella Hadid and Janet Jackson. She hopes that the business can become self-sufficient by the time she starts her college journey. McKenzie has her sights set on the Ivy League.
