The House of Gucci has been criticised by the great-grandchildren of Guccio Gucci, with the Lady Gaga and Adam Driver-starring movie focusing on the 1995 murder of Maurizio Gucci.

Director Ridley Scott and his team have been collaborating with the famous fashion house Gucci on the film, with the company providing access to their archives for authenticity.

Despite that, Patrizia Gucci, one of Maurizio Gucci's second cousins has claimed it is not true to life.

"We are truly disappointed," she told The Associated Press. "I speak on behalf of the family. (The filmmakers) are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system.

"Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything, but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed."

More specifically, she reacted negatively to paparazzi filming photos that show the stars in costumes and make-up.

"My grandfather (Aldo Gucci) was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, blue eyes and very elegant," she said.

"He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and this photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly. Shameful, because he doesn't resemble him at all."

"Horrible, horrible," she said about Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci. "I still feel offended."

House of Gucci will be released in the US on November 24
