The Last of Us star says Pedro Pascal was inspiration for new FUBAR villain

Gabriel Luna has revealed that his villainous character in new Netflix series FUBAR was inspired by Pedro Pascal.

FUBAR stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as an almost-retired CIA agent who discovers that his daughter is also in the CIA, while Luna plays Boro, an evil arms dealer who the father-daughter duo must track down.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about his role, Luna admitted that he drew some inspiration from another villain played by Pascal, who also happens to play Luna's onscreen brother in apocalyptic thriller The Last of Us.

"Pedro, who I worked with on The Last of Us, he did a picture called Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent where he played kind of an arms [dealer], but he's so lovable and he's so personable," Luna explained.

"So I told him that I drew a little bit off that character for this one that I was doing. He was like 'Oh, that's great. Happy I could help'."

Luna also had to spend some time perfecting Boro's accent because he's from Guyana, but he was educated in England and has spent a lot of time in America.

"He's a well travelled person. So in my mind, there's definitely a hint of a Spanish accent, but there should also be kind of an English lilt to the way he speaks," he shared.

Pascal and Luna are expected to reprise their respective roles as Joel and Tommy in The Last of Us season two, which has been delayed due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.

Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have paused all work on the show, including script writing and auditions.

FUBAR will premiere on Netflix on May 25.
