Yahoo Finance Coronavirus: Number of UK cases jumps to 456 in biggest daily increase since outbreak began
The number of coronavirus cases in the UK has jumped to 456.
The latest figures, announced by the government on Wednesday afternoon, mark an increase of 83 from Tuesday’s figure of 373 positive cases.
This is the biggest day-to-day increase since the outbreak began. The previous highest increase was 65 on Sunday.
Six people have died from the virus, the Department of Health said.

It comes as chancellor Rishi Sunak promised “whatever extra resources our NHS needs” to combat the coronavirus.
Delivering his Budget statement, Sunak also pledged statutory sick pay for people in self-isolation, with the government meeting the costs for businesses with 250 or less employees.
Among the new cases was Tory minister Nadine Dorries, the first MP to have been infected with the coronavirus.
She has gone into self-isolation, along with Labour and Co-operative MP Rachael Maskell.

Though she hasn’t tested positive, Maskell said she was self-isolating as a result of close contact with Dorries during a meeting last week.
In further coronavirus developments, Michael Gove, the chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, suggested that upcoming Brexit negotiations between the UK and EU on a future trade deal may be postponed because of the coronavirus situation.
Speaking to the future relationship with the EU committee in the House of Commons, Mr Gove said: “It’s a live question.

“We were looking forward to the joint committee meeting in the UK on the 30th of this month and we were also looking forward to the next stage of the negotiations going ahead.
“But we have had indications today from Belgium that there may be a specific… health concern.”

Meanwhile, health secretary Matt Hancock will give a statement to MPs about coronavirus at 7pm on Wednesday.
