Yahoo Finance Laura Whitmore confirms 'Love Island' return and jokes 'let's pray the vaccines kick in'
As the UK starts to slowly make its way out of lockdown, there is hope on the horizon – Love Island will be making a return this summer.
The news is sure to be welcome for the popular dating show's legions of fans, who missed out last year when it was postponed due to social distancing difficulties.
Presenter Laura Whitmore has told The Telegraph's Stella magazine that she has heard Love Island will return and that applications are "crazy".
She said: “I have been told that it’s coming back. I love doing it, it’s such a fun show.
"And I actually think it’s been good to have had that break, for everyone who works on it, because we all went through a loss.
"It’s nice to realise how much people missed the show. Apparently applications are crazy this year."
Whitmore joked: "Let’s just pray the vaccines kick in.
"I’ve got a friend who jokes we should do Love Island Extra Baggage, with people who have ex-husbands and kids.
"Maybe if it’s only the older people that have been vaccinated, we’ll do that!”
The TV star took over the show after her friend Caroline Flack stood down as host shortly before her death a year ago.
Whitmore and husband Iain Stirling, who are currently expecting a baby together, both work on Love Island as he is the show's narrator.
But she shared that they managed not to spend much time with each other while the previous series was filming in South Africa.
She said: “We had separate hotel rooms in Cape Town because he worked from 1pm to 9pm, and I wouldn’t go into the villa until about 1am when the voting comes in.
"To be honest with you, we’d be cautious about working together properly because it would be… a lot.”
