Law and Order: Organised Crime and Law and Order: SVU season finale spoilers follow.

Law and Order: Organised Crime's crossover with SVU has ended with a tragic loss.

The episode, titled 'With Many Names,' aired on Thursday (May 18) and saw the culmination of Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Elliot Stabler's (Christopher Meloni) team-up to take down the person behind website Shadowërk.

But the night kicked off with the final of SVU which saw Shadowërk reemerge online with a hit put on Benson and Stabler.

After ending on that cliffhanger, Organised Crime began with a flashback showing Shadowërk's origin story, revealing that Kyle, the adult son of a woman who worked in the Ohio escrow office where the site's server was housed, was behind the site.

The episodes saw the team pursue Kyle in a wooded area where he was watching all of them. When Kyle emerged he began firing on the group, with Detective Jamie Whelan (Brent Antonello) being shot in the neck.

After being shot, Jamie said he couldn't feel his legs, while Detective Bobby Reyes (Rick Gonzalez) called for a medic. But as the team waited for help for Jamie, Kyle tried to take his own life with a sword after being cornered by Sergeant Ayanna Bell.

The medical team working on Jamie then heard what had happened with Kyle and, knowing that he must be captured alive, Jamie told them to go and help him first.

When Jamie was eventually brought to hospital he said he still couldn't feel anything in his upper and lower body, and was connected to a device that sent signals to his body to allow him to breathe.

As Jamie lay in hospital, Detective Jet Slootmaekers (Ainsley Seiger) called him to tell him she loves him, but he didn't really respond.

Instead, he told Reyes to disconnect the box, saying: "This is not a life, Bobby. This is not my life. It's not. I'm serious. Just disconnect the box. Please."

Reyes refused to effectively end his friend's life, and afterwards, Jamie was visited by his father. While what happened wasn't shown on screen, it was heavily implied that Jamie's dad acted on his son's request, as we next heard that Jamie had flatlined and passed away.

Reyes was then shown calling Jet to deliver the sad news, as Bell and Stabler also processed their loss.

Last month it was revealed that when Organized Crime returns for its fourth season, it will consist of 13 episodes. Earlier this month TV Line reported that the show was on hold for a midseason premiere, as the search for a new showrunner continues.

"We just know that they don't have a new showrunner yet, which is why it's nice to be able to give them a little time and then come on midseason," said Jeff Bader, who's president of entertainment programming strategy at NBC Universal Television.

Law & Order: SVU airs Thursdays on NBC in the US. The show airs on Sky Witness in the UK, with select episodes available on NOW.
