Auston Matthews buries absolutely absurd overtime winner

Winnipeg just lost a game and I, more importantly, just lost my lunch.

Mired in a three-game losing streak and facing the Jets for the second of a three-game set, the Leafs needed their big dogs to step up in the biggest of ways on Thursday, and they did just that. Especially their alpha.

With the game knotted at threes in the first minute of overtime, Auston Matthews took a pass in the high slot and the rest, as they say, was history.

After the Leafs narrowly avoided disaster in their own zone, Morgan Rielly and Matthews bursted up the ice on a 2-on-1. With a completely gassed Mark Scheifele doing god-knows-what on the back-check, Rielly feathers a quick pass to send Matthews in all alone before the world's best goal-scorer makes Connor Hellebuyck bite on a nasty fake and puts a disgusting backhander right up under the bar.

There's just so few players who can hone a bouncing pass like that, make a couple quick moves, sell a fake so well that arguably the NHL's best goalie drops like a tonne of bricks, and finish in the top bunk with a seemingly simple flick of the (injured?) wrist.

Goddamn beautiful.
