Leafs teammates jeer John Tavares after Team Canada model photos

Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares still has a number of years left in his NHL career, but he may have just found a way to fill his time after he hangs up the skates.

Tavares was one of the models Team Canada used to showcase its new Lululemon apparel for the upcoming 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, and the results were spectacular — just look at that flowing coat.

Unsurprisingly, Tavares said his Leafs teammates had some fun at his expense over the photoshoot.

"I got some good ribbings in the room on that one," Tavares told reporters Wednesday. "It's not my forte. I'll keep my day job, that's for sure."

The consensus seemed to be that the coat itself wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but that Tavares pulled it off.

"We gave him the gears a little bit for it, he's got pictures all over the team chat," veteran forward Wayne Simmonds said. "It's pretty hilarious but he looked good."

"Pretty funny-looking coat there but it looked okay on him," Nick Ritchie added. "It was definitely in the team group [chat] and we were laughing pretty hard."

"I don't know if that's my style choice but I guess it's working for him," Alex Kerfoot joked.

The Maple Leafs have been one of the NHL's hottest teams in recent weeks, going 9-1-0 over their past 10 games after a rough start to the season had fans worried. Perhaps the Tavares photos provided the morale boost this team needed to right the ship.

From an individual standpoint, Tavares has been playing his way into consideration for what should be a loaded Team Canada squad in Beijing. The 31-year-old has eight goals and seven assists through his first 16 games in 2021-22.

If he keeps it up he might just be rocking that special coat during the Olympics opening ceremony in February.
