Lena Dunham: I'd do 'Celebrity Love Island'

Lena Dunham has said she would like to appear on Celebrity Love Island.

The Girls star is a huge fan of the UK dating show, which first began on ITV in 2005 with celebrities competing to find love, before it was rebooted in 2015 in its current format.

Dunham told Cosmopolitan magazine that after taking a 14 month from dating: “If someone came up to me and they were sweet and asked me to dinner at a pub, or whatever you people do in England, I’d be like,‘Yeah, totally.’ Or if they brought Celebrity Love Island back, I would be so tempted.”

The 33-year-old actress, writer and director underwent surgery in 2017 to remove her womb to treat endometriosis, a painful condition affecting the lining of the uterus. She also suffers from fibromyalgia, a chronic condition causing pain and fatigue and connective-tissue disorder Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Dunham - who has been living in rural Wales while shooting her latest TV show Industry - revealed she developed an addiction to painkillers after her split from Bleachers guitarist Jack Antonoff in 2017 that left her not wanting to live.

She said: "I realised I wasn’t just taking medication for physical pain, I was taking medication for the emotional pain too. And then suddenly, especially this stuff, the benzos [benzodiazepines, an anxiety medication], it changes your brain chemistry and suddenly you’re not yourself. You’re not present. You’re not functional.

“One day, I looked around and I was lying in a bed in my parents’ apartment under two blankets, in the same pyjamas I’d been in for three days, and I was like, ‘This isn’t me.’ It wasn’t that I was suicidal. I felt nothing. I didn’t want to live."

Dunham checked into rehab for 28 days and is now sober. She also made the decision to be single for the last 14 months which she said, “ been the most healing thing”.

Celebrity Love Island ran for two series and saw TV presenter Jayne Middlemiss win with former Westlife bodyguad Fran Cosgrove and George Best’s son Callum win with Paul Gascoigne’s daughter Bianca.
