Let’s Hope It Happens Soon – Krunal Pandya Wishes To Play World Cup Alongside Brother Hardik Pandya

With three ICC World Cups in three consecutive years, Krunal Pandya remains hopeful of playing at least one of them together with brother Hardik. India‘s squad for this year’s T20 World Cup is going to be announced on Wednesday, and while Hardik is a certainty in the main squad, Krunal Pandya could also find a place in the squad or the travelling reserves.

The left-hand all-rounder has made progress in his international career over the last couple of years. He made hit ODI debut earlier this year – and hit a rapid fifty – and fared decently on the Sri Lanka tour in July, before going down with covid.

“Yeah, true. Let’s hope it happens soon. Plenty of World Cups coming soon,” Pandya told ESPNCricinfo on being asked about achieving the dream of playing World Cup alongside his brother.

The southpaw has played 19 T20Is, in which he averages 24.80 with the bat while bowling at an economy of 8.10.

I’m a proper batsman who can bat at any number from three to seven: Krunal Pandya

The left-hander has been a crucial core member of the Mumbai Indians eleven for the past half-a-decade. At Mumbai, he has played the role of a floater: in the presence of power-hitters such as Hardik and Kieron Pollard he has been pushed down when they had needed their finishers to come to the fore, or has been promoted up when early wickets fall.

Krunal Pandya, though, considers himself a “proper batsman” capable of batting at any fixed position. He also pointed out that his dexterity with the ball of bowling at different stages of the game. His all-round abilities and flexibility are what he underpins his success and future claim upon.

“One thing I know is that I’m a proper batsman who can bat at any number from three to seven. I can finish the game as well, which I have done in the past. And I have done the role where I go in at 20 for 2 or 20 for 3 and I have to build an innings. I wouldn’t say I’m a floater or a finisher. I feel that I am a proper batsman who can do anything in any situation.

“With bowling as well, I have bowled in powerplays, I have bowled in the middle overs, I have bowled those 16th-17th overs and I have bowled the 20th as well. I can perform any role the team requires of me. I don’t want to be a one-dimensional player. I don’t want to be a player who can only do some particular role. I want to be that player who is flexible and ready to do anything for the team, whichever team I play for,” the 30-year-old Baroda cricketer said.

The Pandya brothers will next be seen in action during the second half of the IPL 2021, beginning from September 19 in the UAE. Mumbai Indians are placed at the fourth spot on the points table.
