Ricky Gervais has teased fans with a huge After Life season three update.

Gervais, who has written, produced and directed the show, took to Twitter to let fans know that filming will be kicking off very soon.

He posted a picture of him holding up a script for day one of filming, with the date showing as Monday, April 19, captioning the photo: "I'd better learn my lines".

The Netflix surprise hit follows Tony, (Gervais) a journalist living in the fictional town of Tambury, whose life is turned upside down after his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman), dies from breast cancer.

Last year, Gervais revealed that once After Life is concluded after this third season, he will continue his partnership with Netflix, with three projects in the pipeline.

Gervais told SiriusXM: "I've got it down to three totally different ideas and Netflix has already bought it because I told them I want to end After Life now and so they said, 'OK, we want the next thing'.

"We will just start with the next thing, same deal, but I don't know which one I'm going to go for. I can't even think about it yet. I have got the outline of three completely different sorts of sitcoms and shows."

Careful not to spoil the surprise, the 59-year-old elaborated: "One of them is a sitcom. One is probably more sitcommy than anything I've ever done.

"I can't tell you anything about it in case someone rips it off!"
