Linklaters partner joins Fresnillo board as Lord Cairns steps down

Linklaters partner joins Fresnillo board as Lord Cairns steps down

A SENIOR partner at magic circle law firm Linklaters will join the board of Mexico-focused miner Fresnillo, replacing Lord Cairns.

Cairns plans to step down at the FTSE 100-quoted miner’s annual meeting in May.

“I should like to take this opportunity to thank Lord Cairns for his significant contribution to the board over the past six years,” said chairman Alberto Bailleres.

Charles Jacobs was formerly Linklaters’ lead partner advising Fresnillo, but has made the move in-house. He has worked on high-profile deals including the Glencore Xstrata merger and Kazakhmys’ proposed take private of ENRC.

“Charles Jacobs is regarded as one of the UK’s leading corporate lawyers, who also has extensive experience and knowledge in the mining sector,” said Fresnillo in a statement.

The company also published its annual report yesterday, which showed that chief executive Octabio Alvidrez took home $1.17m (£700,000) last year, down from $1.9m in 2012.
