LOCAL ROUNDUP: Sherfield on move again to Minnesota

Mar. 16—Danville native Trent Sherfield is on the move again.

After a season with the Buffalo Bills, Sherfield signed a one-year, $1.79 million free agent contract on Thursday with the Minnesota Vikings.

Sherfield played 392 offensive snaps and 150 on special teams in 17 games last season for the Bills. Sherfield caught 11 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown and made three tackles.

Minnesota will be the fifth team Sherfield will play for and the fourth team in four years.

PREP BASEBALL

BHRA 30, Danville 1

BISMARCK — Micah Stanford had three hits with seven RBIs as the Blue Devils won in three innings.

Karson Stevenson had four hits and three RBIs for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, while Chaz Dubois, Caden Keleminic and Anderson Thomas each had two hits and two RBIs, Dane Dillion had two RBIs, Cruz Dubois had three hits and a RBI and Liam Paris had one RBI.

Brody Boyd had the lone RBI for Danville, who will travel to Mahomet-Seymour.

The Blue Devils will play Robinson today.

Westville 3, Charleston 2

CHARLESTON — The Tigers went to 4-0 for the season after pulling out the win over Charleston.

Drew Wichtowski had two hits for Westville, while Easton Barney had three hits and a RBI, Matt Darling and Zach Russell each had one RBI.

Westville was coming off a 16-1 win over Villa Grove. Darling and Cameron Steinbaugh each had three hits and three RBIs for the Tigers, while Russell had three hits and two RBIs, Barney and Alex Davis each had two RBIs and Cade Schaumburg and Ben Johnson each added one RBI.

The Tigers will play LeRoy today.

Hoopeston Area 19, Clifton Central 8

HOOPESTON — The Cornjerkers poured on the offense in a win over Clifton Central.

Cole Miller had four hits with two doubles and four RBIs for Hoopeston Area, while Mason Rush had a double and four RBIs, Dylan Judy had two hits and three RBIs, Ryker Small had two hits with a home run and Wyatt Eisenmann had two hits and a RBI.

The Cornjerkers will play at the Jacksonville Jamboree today.

A-P 11, Geo-RF 1

ARMSTRONG — The Armstrong-Potomac baseball team started the season with an 11-1 win over Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Thursday.

Traxton Roberts had two hits and two RBIs for the Trojans, while Kollin Asbury and Ryan Edwards each had two RBIs and Colton Murphy and Dawson McMasters each had one RBI.

The Trojans will play Oblong-Hutsonville-Palestine today at 11 a.m.

PREP SOFTBALL

BHRA 10, Danville 2

BISMARCK — The Blue Devils had 10 hits as they were able to beat the Vikings.

Emma Shelato and Ella Myers each had two hits and two RBIs, while winning pitcher Eva Ronto had two RBIs, Raeghan Dickison had two hits and a RBI and Ella Ronto had a RBI.

Jaidyn Hardesty had three hits and a RBI for Danville, while Olivia Scaggs had a RBI and Kay'Leah Bellik had two hits.

The Blue Devils will play Casey-Westfield today, while the Vikings will play Paris on Tuesday.

Geo-RF 13, Heritage 10

GEORGETOWN — The Buffaloes scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to win a dogfight with the Hawks.

Madeline Nevels had three hits and three RBIs for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, while Kaydence Kraus, Skylee Meador, Emily Fitzwater, Chloe Winslow, Kylie-Jo Miller and winning pitcher Chloe Stephenson had two hits.

Geo-RF was coming off a 12-2 loss in its season opener to Armstrong-Potomac.

Carly Grant had three RBIs for the Trojans, while Emma Holden had two RBIs, Elle Jameson had a solo home run, Lyndee Williamson had a RBI and Acasia Gernentz had two hits and RBI, Makenna Ackerman had a RBI and Tinley Parkerson had four RBIs.

Kraus had two RBIs for the Buffaloes while Stephenson had a double.

The Buffaloes are 1-1 and will play Tri-County on Monday.

Westville 14, Mahomet-Seymour 2

MAHOMET — Layla Atwood had three hits and two RBIs as the Tigers beat the Bulldogs.

Madison Jones had two hits and two RBIs for Westville, while Daylin Zaayer had three hits and a RBI and Lani Gondzur, Laney Cook, Abby Sabalaskey and Tinley Zaayer each had one RBI.

Sabalaskey had 13 strikeouts and gave up only two hits for the Tigers, who will play Heritage on Monday.

Hoopeston Area 14, Clifton Central 4

HOOPESTON — Maddie Barnes had three hits with four RBI at the plate and seven strikeouts on the mound as the Cornjerkers beat Clifton Central.

Jersey Cundiff had three hits and three RBIs for Hoopeston Area, while Macy Warner had two hits and two RBIs and Aubreyana Inman, Melina Vogel and Kennedy Wallace each had one RBI.

The Cornjerkers were coming off a 14-10 win over Rantoul on Thursday. Barnes had five RBIs, while Viviana Zamarripa had two triples and three RBIs, Cundiff had a home run and two RBIs and Kinzley Bailey, Wallace and Addyson Kelnhofer each had one RBI.

Hoopeston Area will face Donovan on Saturday.

Salt Fork 18, Blue Ridge 6

FARMER CITY — The Storm had 19 hits as they were able to beat Blue Ridge on Friday.

Macie Russell had four hits with three RBIs for Salt Fork, while Morgan Russell had three hits and three RBIs and had six strikeouts on the mound. Sailor Pacot had three hits and two RBIs, Sophia Escamilla had two hits and two RBIs, Brilynn Barnett had two RBIs, Ava Ringstrom had two hits and a RBI, Alexa Jamison had a RBI, Karli McGee and Rain Pitlik each had two hits.

The Storm will play Oakwood on Monday.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

DACC starts trip 4-0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Lady Jaguars have started their annual spring trip in style with four straight wins.

Danville Area Community College beat Mercer Community College 3-1 in its first game on Friday. Rylee Richey took over from starter Lauren Kehl and had 10 strikeouts in six innings to get the win. Kennedy Hudson had two hits whiel Richey and Gloria Richardson each had one RBI.

The Lady Jaguars then beat Delaware Tech 2-1. Kehl got the win with two strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings to get the win.

Richardson had two hits while Hudson had a RBI.

The Lady Jaguars started the trip on Thursday with a 7-0 win over Mohawk Valley College and a 11-0 win over Sussex Community College.

Against Mohawk, Amaria Wall three hits with three RBIs, while Alyvia Jackson had two RBIs, Molly Besser had two hits and a RBI, Hudson had two hits and Kelsey Martlage had one RBI.

DACC put Sussex away in the fifth inning with six runs in the inning. Hudson and Richardson each had two hits and two RBIs, while Rylee Richey and Sofiya Siemsen each had one RBI and Jackson and Pailei Cripe each had two hits.

The Lady Jaguars are 5-3 and will play Surry Community College and Alpena Community College today.
