London has retained its crown as Europe’s most digitally visible city which helps boost its investment prospects, according to new research.

The capital came ahead of Paris, which was followed by Madrid, Istanbul and Rome in the Europe’s most talked about cities report.

The study looks at what places are garnering the most attention and profile, as measured by social media and online news mentions.

A return to events as lockdown rules lifted contributed to a 13% increase in online mentions during 2022 across Europe’s top 60 cities, property communications agency ING Media found.

It marks the fifth consecutive year London has taken the top spot and had 14% of total mentions last year compared with the other cities looked at.

The report, launched at the Mipim property conference in Cannes, covers 60 cities in 34 countries ranked by 2022 digital mentions online, including Twitter, forums, blogs, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, comments and reviews.

Damian Wild, managing director at ING Media, said: “Digital visibility is an increasingly important influence on attracting investment, businesses and talent whilst developing a city’s reputation.”
