‘I Was Lorena Bobbitt’ & ‘Banana Splits Movie’ Director Danishka Esterhazy Inks With Paradigm, Joins Syfy’s ‘The Surrealtor’

EXCLUSIVE: Canadian director Danishka Esterhazy, whose recent projects include helming Lifetime’s TV pic I Was Lorena Bobbitt and horror comedy The Banana Splits Movie, has signed with Paradigm.

The move comes as has come aboard as producer-director on the new Syfy series The Surrealtor, which is set to begin shooting in Newfoundland in the fall. The project reunites Esterhazy with the network after Banana Splits Movie, a dark reboot of the Hanna-Barbera children’s series. It bowed at San Diego Comic-Con last year before premiering on Syfy in October.

Esterhazy also recently directed episodes of Syfy’s action adventure Vagrant Queen starring Adriyan Rae, which bowed in March.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be part of the team at Paradigm,” said said. “I look forward to working with them, developing and expanding my work in both television and feature films in Canada, the USA, and internationally.”

The Surrealtor, which hails from Vagrant Queen producer Blue Ice Pictures, follows a supernaturally trained realtor and his elite team of specialists who go above and beyond to sell homes no one else wants to come near. The team works together to research, investigate and, hopefully, “fix” haunted and possessed homes (with often horrific results). Esterhazy is set to direct four episodes of the series, which is bound for Syfy’s 2021 season.

Her Lifetime TV movie I Was Lorena Bobbitt, produced by Cineflix in Toronto, premiered this past May, and her credits also include co-writing and directing Level 16, a sci-fi thriller that premiered at Fantastic Fest 2018.

Esterhazy also won the inaugural Amazon Video Filmmaker Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017 and is a grad of the Directors’ Lab at the Canadian Film Centre and Talent Lab at the Toronto Film Festival.

She continues to be repped by her longtime agent Jordan Drage at Integral Artists in Vancouver.
