HBO's Lovecraft Country might not have been picked up for a second season yet, but that doesn't mean the cast and creative team aren't planning for it.

Series star Jurnee Smollett has revealed that although initially she didn't fancy returning to the fantasy series, she now definitely wants to go back for another season.

Not only that, but the show's creator Misha Green has promised if it does get picked up for a second outing, it is going to be "unlike anything that's ever been on TV".

"When we wrapped season one, I thought there is no way in hell I could ever step back into this world and yet now I'm like, oh, I just want to go back. And I have no idea what Misha's planning," she told Deadline.

"All she's told me is that it's bold and unlike anything that's ever been on TV, but we haven't actually been picked up for season 2 yet. I know as much as you know, man, honestly."

Smollett opened up about how she believes Green's storylines will be "disruptive" if the series returns.

"She has such a gift for using the art of storytelling to illuminate the humanity of Black folks in a way that feels disruptive and fresh at the same time, but also uniquely familiar. Lovecraft is a family drama at its heart.

"Each family could relate to these family members. It's a very challenging task to make something so uniquely familiar in this way."

On season 2, Misha Green previously told Rolling Stone: "I'm excited about exploring season two and what we have in mind."

Lovecraft Country aired on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic/NOW in the UK.
