Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson both post career highs in points as Mavericks win

Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson, the headliners of the NBA's next generation of superstars, met for the second time of their careers on Friday, and they did not disappoint.

Williamson went off for a career-high 36 points plus four assists and two rebounds, but Doncic was even better with 46 points, also a career high, 12 assists and eight rebounds to lead the Mavericks to a 143-130 win.

The win, which also saw Kristaps Porzingis chip in 36 points, extends a four-game win streak for the Mavericks, who may be starting to figure things out after a disappointing start to the season. The win was at least enough to put the Mavs within two games of the Golden State Warriors for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

Doncic is also averaging 35.5 points, 9.5 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game during the Mavericks win streak, which comes directly after a recent flap over Doncic's pleas for fouls. The highlights from this most recent game were good:

While Doncic might have had the better overall game, Williamson can at least argue he was the more efficient player. Specifically, Williamson was 14-of-15 from the field, making him only the third player in the last 20 years to score at least 35 points while shooting at least 90% from the field.

How was Williamson so efficient? Well, let's take a look at his shoot chart.

You have to wonder what was going through his mind on that one 3-pointer.

The NBA can only hope this is the first of many duels between these two over the next several years.
