Magic Mike 3 adds Line of Duty and Westworld star

Line of Duty and Westworld favourite Thandiwe Newton looks set to join the Magic Mike universe.

Via Deadline, it's been reported that she's in talks for a mystery role in Magic Mike's Last Dance – the third movie in the male stripper franchise announced just over a week ago, starring Channing Tatum as Mike Lane once again.

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven) will call the shots.

Following the threequel's announcement, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich shared in a statement: "Is there anybody on screen more charismatic and appealing than Magic Mike? We're thrilled to be back in business with Channing, Steven and their creative team to bring back Magic Mike's wonderful combination of dance, drama, romance and humour."

Tatum, who most recently cameoed in the Ryan Reynolds-led Free Guy, went on to add: "There are no words for how excited I am to blow the doors off of the world of Magic Mike with Steven, Greg [Jacobs, producer], Reid [Carolin, writer], and the amazing people at HBO Max. The stripperverse will never be the same."

Released six years ago, the second movie Magic Mike XXL received two stars in the Digital Spy review.

"There are occasional flashes of the boyish naïveté, sense of camaraderie and bare-bottomed cheek that first endeared Magic Mike to crowds a few years ago, but with this sequel, [director Gregory] Jacobs has unfortunately grabbed the wrong end of the stick," it read.

Soderbergh took the wheel on the 2012 original before moving onto projects such as Side Effects, Behind the Candelabra and No Sudden Move.
