Majestic seeks 125 new sites for huge "bricks and mortar" expansion

Majestic has said it will look for 125 sites (Majestic/PA)
Majestic has said it will look for 125 sites (Majestic/PA)

Majestic is eyeing up 125 sites for potential new stores, including more than 70 in London and the south east.

The wine retailer has appointed property adviser and agent to help identify sites for “experiential bricks-and-mortar” outlets.

It aims to open an average of one new store per month in the coming years “in a bid to attract new customers, drive sales and win market share.”

Majestic has identified almost 30 locations in London where it could open smaller format sites, following a successful trial of its ‘mini Majestic’ concept in Harpenden, Crouch End and Marlow.

Potential sites in London include Belgravia, Camden, Farringdon, Hampstead, Primrose Hill and Westbourne Grove

Majestic CEO John Colley said: “Experiential, bricks-and-mortar retailing is at the heart of what we do at Majestic, and we are committed to opening up to one new store per month during the

coming years to help us reach even more customers across the UK.

“In addition to the new stores already in our pipeline for this year, we have identified more than 100 locations across the UK and the Channel Islands that we believe would be a perfect fit for

Majestic. We are excited to start serving even more communities around the country and helping thousands of new customers discover wines, beers and spirits they will love.”

Majestic’s already operates 208 shops, meaning that 90% of the UK population now lives within 10 miles of a store. Since its acquisition by Fortress Investment Group in 2019 it has opened 17 new stores and refurbished dozens more but now wants to ramp up the pace of expansion.
