Yahoo Finance Majority of Brits want to move to Europe despite Brexit
Just over half of Brits are considering a move abroad — either now or in the future — despite an impending Brexit, according to a poll by Sapio Research.
The research, which was conducted on behalf of global relocation and moving services company Crown Relocations, surveyed 1,000 people in January 2019, across different demographic groups currently considering relocating abroad.
It found that Europe was the number one destination for those looking to move abroad. The poll revealed that 50% of retirees considered Europe as the prime destination while 26% millennials considered the continent for relocation.
“Despite the nation voting to leave the EU, we still consider it our closest neighbour and our number one destination for a move abroad – especially if we’re looking to retire,” said Andy Buckle, general manager at Crown Relocations. “Post-Brexit it may not be as easy to relocate or emigrate to ex-member states and those considering a move will need to take expert advice.”
The safety in Europe is why a majority of Brits still eye the continent for relocation. In comparison, the US only gained 10% of the vote in the poll due to the level of gun crime. Some 46% said they would avoid the US because of president Donald Trump. Only 2% of those looking to relocate said that they wanted to move to the Middle East, while 13% said they’d opt for Asia.
