Man breaks own record for time spinning a basketball on a toothbrush in his mouth

Guinness World Records can get oddly specific and Sandeep Singh Kalia’s is no different.

Kalia hails from British Columbia and broke the world record for “longest duration spinning a basketball on a toothbrush” for the third time in 2019. He set the new score to beat with 1 minute and 8.15 seconds.

In footage of the event, Kalia spins a basketball on a toothbrush rapidly. He then places the handle of the toothbrush in his mouth. A crowd surrounds him at an empty lot as they watch the ball spin relentlessly for over a minute. Finally, it slows down and falls to the ground.

Kalia first entered the Guinness World Records in 2017 with 53 seconds but was quickly bested by other competitors in India and Germany. Unsatisfied, he continued to practice and has held onto the title since his third victory. He first became fascinated with the sport in 2004. In India, where he is originally from, spinning volleyballs are a favorite pastime. However, when he discovered Guinness didn’t recognize volleyball, he opted for a basketball.

“I wanted to be famous in the world and before getting the world record no one knew me, but now the whole world knows me,” Kalia told Abby News in 2018 when he was just a two-time record-breaker. “By the blessing of God, I’m the first person who was able to do over one minute in the spinning category.”
