Man convicted after 100mph motorway race killed his three-year-old son

A man has been convicted of causing death by dangerous driving after his car crashed in a 100mph motorway race, killing his toddler son.

Israr Muhammed's three-year-old son died when his Honda Civic went down an embankment into trees on the M62 in July 2018.

Muhammed, 41, from Batley, was racing another Civic driver, Adam Molloy, 29, from Normanton.

Humberside Police looked at dashcam footage from an independent witness and found they had been travelling more than 100mph at less than 10 metres apart, before Muhammed's car suffered a tyre blow out.

Both were convicted following a trial at Hull Crown Court last week.

Muhammed's daughter also suffered serious and life-changing facial injuries, while his wife was in a coma for more than a month with multiple head and internal injuries.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving as well as two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and causing death while uninsured.

Molloy, the other driver, did not stop at the scene, but was later arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Both were found guilty on all counts and will be sentenced on 2 November.
