Yahoo Finance Man warns of 'harmful' TikTok challenge that landed him in the emergency room: 'Let's just stop this now'
In an attempt to prove that the viral Gorilla Glue hairspray mishap was overblown, a Louisana internet star ended up in the emergency room.
On Feb 3, Tessica Brown revealed that her hair had been stuck for weeks after using Gorilla Glue instead of setting spray. Her upsetting story broke the internet for the day, but ultimately, she was able to have the adhesive surgically removed and reclaim some of her hair.
Len Martin, an aspiring rapper and filmmaker, told WKBN that he glued a red solo cup to his lip to prove that it’s not that difficult to break through the glue’s hold.
“I thought she was just playing around because I didn’t think it was that serious,” he told the outlet. “I actually tried it out before and it actually didn’t do anything for me … So I was like, ‘Okay, she’s lying’ and there are all these challenges going on so I was like, ‘Okay I’m going to try it’ and it went backwards.”
He said he thought he’d be able to “lick” the cup off his lip, but that was not the case.
Martin shared a photo of himself in a medical facility with the cup still attached to himself. He said doctors had to do a “very painful peeling” to separate his mouth from the plastic container.
“This is definitely not one to try. Let’s just stop this now,” Martin said, referring to TikTok’s “Gorilla Glue Challenge,” which has led people to put the extra-strong adhesive on their nails and eyelashes over the past few weeks. “It’s very harmful.”
Gorilla Glue responded to Brown’s initial problem with the product with a statement on Twitter.

“We are aware of the situation and we are very sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident Miss Brown experienced using our Spray Adhesive on her hair,” the statement said. “This is a unique situation because this product is not indicated for use in or on hair as it is considered permanent … It is used for craft, home, auto or office projects to mount things to surfaces.”
Gorilla Glue may be a super effective product, but stick to using it on inanimate objects.
