Man United Rule Out Director Role For LVG

Van Gaal Reportedly Sacked By Man Utd

Manchester United are not looking to appoint a director of football, following reports that Louis van Gaal is set for a role change, say Sky sources.

Van Gaal enters the final weekend of a disappointing season by taking his team into an FA Cup final against Crystal Palace desperate for his first trophy since taking over two years ago.

But speculation over his future continues to build with Sky sources understanding Jose Mourinho has been told the Old Trafford reins are his this summer if the club's owners decide to sack him.

On Friday, The Sun reported the Dutchman is set to see out the final year of his contract as director of football which would open the door for Mourinho to be the new manager.

The newspaper is reporting Van Gaal remains popular with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward who is keen to continue tapping into his footballing knowledge, but added that United have accepted a change at the helm is needed.

Van Gaal has batted away any questions regarding his future in the build-up to the Cup final.

On Thursday he insisted that Saturday's Wembley showdown was all about securing a trophy for the players, staff and supporters and not himself.

United secured fifth spot in their final Premier League game of the campaign with Van Gaal booed by some fans on Tuesday night following his side's 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
