Man Utd ‘reject’ Premier League approach as Erik ten Hag issues telling transfer response

Manchester United are now preparing for a mouth-watering clash with Arsenal, but there is important transfer business to take care of first.

The Red Devils have already been busy in the summer window, spending significantly to improve Erik ten Hag’s squad, although the Dutch boss still has a lack of depth in key areas. It’s for that reason another arrival or two is likely on deadline day, while there could be exits for fringe players before the window slams shut.

With that in mind, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford.

Ten Hag responds on Amrabat

United are expected to secure the signing of Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat ahead of the deadline, and Ten Hag was asked about the possible deal on Friday.

The Dutchman laughed before saying: “You know that? There are so many rumours.” He added: “I think we have done good business. We constructed a strong squad and we are ready for the fight.”

United are short in midfield, and that has been highlighted by Mason Mount’s recent injury. Amrabat is a likely signing before the window amid reports a deal has been reached with Fiorentina.

McTominay approach rejected

Despite the incoming signing of Amrabat for the holding midfield role, United are said to have rejected an approach for Scott McTominay.

The decision has had a knock-on effect, according to Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted: “João Palhinha deal, 100% OFF. No way to change the situation despite medical and media duties done today Been told Fulham tried last minute for Scott McTominay… but no deal on player side and Palhinha will return to Fulham.”

McTominay will likely play a fringe role at Old Trafford, but it seems Ten Hag wants to make sure he has options aplenty in those central roles.
