Man wins Guinness World Records title for his 4-foot high hairstyle: ‘People’s reactions are pretty priceless’

There’s probably nothing more punk rock than entering the Guinness World Records for the tallest full mohawk.

Joseph Grisamore took the title with his mohawk standing at 42.5 inches. Grisamore, who’s known for always having long hair amongst his friends, wanted to break the record back in 2007. But he was too scared to shave the sides of his head.

When he decided to try again, he regrew his hair because it had become too dreaded. Now, seven years later, Grisamore is the mohawk champion.

“I’ll admit that people’s reactions are pretty priceless too. I’m 6 feet, 1 inch tall and my mohawk is pushing 4 feet now,” Grisamore told Guinness World Records.

It usually takes him about an hour with a hairdresser and a crew to get his hair standing.

“My hairdresser is a pro at teasing the base of the hair enough to hold the weight of a full fan. Got2b glued blasting freeze spray is the key ingredient, while assistants hold the fan upright until dry,” Grisamore told Guinness World Records.

But having such tall hair isn’t always easy while navigating spaces. Grisamore said most doors aren’t higher than 7 feet and most ceilings aren’t taller than 9 feet. He also has trouble getting into cars. Still, the honor is all his.

“I’m honored to be added to a list of one-of-a-kind record holders,” Grisamore told Guinness World Records. “My wife wants me to stay humble, but instead, I’m considering becoming the ‘Mohawk King’ and attempting the tallest mohawk spike title, which is how I’d begun my journey with record-breaking in 2007.”
