Manchester United

David de Gea – 6: Saved well with his feet when Sharp was sent through one-on-one, but might have done better for Bryan’s goal – though he did appear to be pushed slightly.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka –7: Was his side’s main attacking outlet for periods of the game.

Axel Tuanzebe – 5: Booked for hacking down Fleck late in the first half. Ball deflected wickedly off the centre-back as Burke put the visitors 2-1 up.

Harry Maguire – 7: Was arguably unlucky to see a foul given against him in the lead-up to Martial’s disallowed finish. Headed home powerfully to draw the hosts level.

Alex Telles – 7: Like his colleague on the other side of defence, the full-back looked to be a creative influence. Supplied the assist for Maguire with a wicked, out-swinging corner.

Nemanja Matic – 5: Somewhat anonymous in midfield for the home team.

Paul Pogba – 6: Not at his recent influential best, but not for a lack of trying.

Bruno Fernandes – 6: Backed up his claim that he’s not tired despite his significant game time of late, but his end product did not match his energy.

Anthony Martial – 6: Did well to shake off an apparent shoulder issue sustained in the first few minutes. Found the net but the strike was disallowed.

Marcus Rashford – 6: Shot narrowly wide early on when he should have hit the target at least.

Mason Greenwood – 5: Still looks some way off the player he was last year. Dragged his best chance harmlessly wide of the Sheffield United goal, and was substituted shortly after the hour mark.

Substitutes: Cavani – 6; Shaw – 6; Van de Beek – 6.

Sheffield United

Aaron Ramsdale – 5: Dropped a cross to set up Martial’s disallowed goal – was perhaps lucky that a foul was given against Maguire in that moment.

George Baldock – 6: Tidy showing for the most part from the wing-back.

Chris Basham – 7: Made some great reads to limit United’s clear opportunities.

Phil Jagielka – 7: A very solid effort from the 38-year-old. That’s right: 38.

Ethan Ampadu – 6: Showed great determination with one marauding run in the second half.

Kean Bryan – 7: Rose highest to head home for his team in the first half. Was substituted early in the second half.

Oli Norwood – 6: Returning midfielder put in a good shift in the middle of the pitch.

John Lundstram – 7: Booked for cynically pulling on Rashford’s shirt to stop a break by the hosts. Was involved more and more as the game went on, eventually assisting Burke’s goal.

John Fleck – 7: Picked out Sharp superbly to send the striker through one-on-one in the first half. Pulled off a nice nutmeg on Wan-Bissaka before being hacked down by Tuanzebe. Assisted Bryan’s opener.

David McGoldrick – 7: Worked hard from start to finish, helping to limit Man United’s time on the ball in the first half.

Billy Sharp – 6: Was kept out by De Gea when through one-on-one – will have wanted to do better.

Substitutes: Bogle – 6; Burke – 7; Brewster – 6.
