Mariah Carey celebrates All I Want For Christmas Is You getting to No.1 25 years after original release

Mariah Carey is celebrating after her hit All I Want For Christmas Is You has finally reached No.1 - 25 years after its original release.

Though the festive tune - originally released in October 1994 - holds several Guinness World Records, it had never reached the top spot in the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart- until now.

Carey tweeted: “We did it,” in response to the news and shared a GIF of herself blowing kisses, captioned, “Current mood.”

Carey wrote the song for her 1994 Merry Christmas album after her then husband and manager Tommy Mattola encouraged her to make a Christmas record. It took her and songwriting partner Walter Afanasieff just 15 minutes to compose and has gone on to earn the singer more than $60 million (£45 million) in royalties.

On its original released it peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Hot Adult Contemporary chart and at No. 12 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. In the UK it reached No. 14 in the singles chart but holds the World Record for most weeks in the UK singles Top 10 chart for a Christmas song.
